3 Ambedkar statues damaged in Azamgarh

LUCKNOW: In what appeared a clear design to create a law and order crisis miscreants damaged statues of Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar in three separate places in Sarai Meer police circle of Azamgarh hours before Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and Dalit leader Mayawati was to address a major rally in the district, early Sunday. Police said the accused will be booked under the National Security Act. The authorities moved in quickly and made arrangements to get two the statues replaced and one repaired after locals brought the matter to the notice of the local police. The statues were repaired before news of the incident could spark any unrest. Separate FIRs were lodged in connection with the three incidents though no arrests were reported till late Sunday night. The three spots where the incident took place, fall within a radius of 6km, said police sources.
