Luknow: A charted accountant has been booked by the Uttar Pradesh Cyber Cell under Section 66 of Information Technology Act on Monday for allegedly hacking into the login page of the irrigation department's Tax portal, used for filing tax returns.
The hacker, Sanjay Frederick Singh, used to file tax return's for the irrigation department but his services have been discontinued recently, said police.
According to the police, Prakash Singh Kumar, the drawing and distributional officer in the irrigation department, had lodged an FIR on May 3 about the department's profile page on the I-T portal - tdscpc.gov.in - being hacked and they couldn't log in. The FIR was lodged at Hussainganj police station against unidentified person's under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act.
After which the police's Cyber Cell was asked to probe the case by the SSP. "The inquiry found that Sanjay Fredrick Singh - a resident of Lucknow - used a token number from the National Security Depository Limited to login to the portal. He had been filing TDS on behalf of the department," said a police officer.
