SRINAGAR: National Conference party president and candidate farooq Abdullah on Saturday won the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha election against his PDP rival Nazir Ahmad Khan.
Farooq won the by-election with a lead of 9,199 votes over the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) Nazir Ahmad Khan and beating other nine candidates in the constituency.
"This was the bloodiest election ever. Results show that people are in favor of NC," said Abdullah after winning the by-elections.
The bypolls to Srinagar Lok Sabha seat was on April 9, with constituency recording its lowest ever voter tournout of 7.13 per cent. The polling day saw violence that left eight persons dead and scores of others, including security personnel, injured in clashes with stone-pelting protesters.
Only 709 of the 35,169 electorate voted during re-polling.
