Kolkata: Trinamool Congress came up as the winner in four municipalities of West Bengal – one in Darjeeling hills and three in the plains, others in the list were Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) with three civic bodies in the hills including Darjeeling.
The elections I the seven districts were held on May 14.
TMC captured 24 out of the 27 wards in Raigunj municipality of North Dinajpur district, leaving Congress with two wards and BJP with one. In South, the TMC bagged 24 WARDS IN Paragana district winning 12 of the 16 wards. BJP bagged two seats while seats while Congress and Independent won one seat each.
GJM, however managed to retain three civic bodies in the hills , TMC put up a credible performance winning in Mirik, with a total of nine seats so far, in which TMC won six and GJM three.
GJM was successful in securing its spot in the other civic bodies in the hills too.
The Morcha won 31 of the 32 seats in Darjeeling municipality where TMC had been able to emerge victorious in one seat.GJM won 12 wards in Khurseong while TMC bagged the remaining three.
GJM alsowon the civic body elections in Kalimpong capturing 19 of the 23 seats wile TMC bagged only two.
Jan Andolan Party of Harka Bahadur Chetri,a former GJM leader who tried to outsmart the Morcha, failed to make a major gain in Kalimpong and managed to win only two seats.
