Nirbhaya gangrape case: SC confirms death to 4 convicts

New Delhi: Supreme Court has confirmed death sentence to all the four convicts in the gang rape case on 16 December 2016 who has challenged for the death penalty. 'It is a barbaric incident', Supreme Court said in its order. The Judgement was received with an applause from those in the court.

Justice Bhanumati said that there should be systematic education of children of to ensure how they will give respect to women

Justice Bhanumati quoted Swami Vivekanand on how should tradition enrich society with knowledge & understanding to ensure justice for women.

The execution was stayed after the four convicts Mukesh (27), Pawan (20), Vinay (21) and Akshay (29) moved the top court. The fifth accused, Ram Singh, had allegedly committed suicide while in jail. The sixth accused, who was a minor at the time of crime, was granted three years in a correction facility by Juvenile Justice Board. He was released from the home in November 2015.

One of the accused, Ram Singh had already hanged himself in prison, while another person, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, was convicted in August last year and will serve the maximum sentence of three years in a reform home.

I am happy that the verdict has been upheld though I wish it had come sooner said Maneka Gandhi,Union Minister.

After the court judgement Nibhaya's father said It's a victory for my family,I am very happy with the judgement.

The 23-year-old was brutally assaulted and raped by six persons on a moving bus in South Delhi and thrown out of the vehicle with her male friend on the night of December 16, 2012.
