PAKISTAN: One killed in Afghan consulate in Karachi

PAKISTAN: An Afghan diplomat has been killed on Monday in the lobby of the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Pakistan's city of Karachi in what was described as a personal dispute. According to the officials , the deceased has been identified as Zaki Addu, a third secretary at the consulate .

Following the firing, roads around the consulate were closed for traffic. The police and Rangers personnel cordoned off the area when the fire shots were heard.

Police official Saqib Ismail told Reuters , "The guard used his automatic weapon, firing multiple bullets," Ismail said, adding that the guard was also an Afghan national.

Another police Official, Deputy General Inspector (South) Azad Khan said the guard, Hayat Ullah who opened fire has been arrested. Azad Khan further said the firing was either a result of personal enmity or a spur of the moment incident.

Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal confirmed the shooting on his official Facebook account.

"Firing inside Afg Consulate General in Karachi at around 12:30 pm today.. has been carried out by an Afghan guard inside the compound resulting in fatality of criminal act."
