IGI airport to conduct road safety campaigns for drivers

New Delhi: Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) a GMR Led consortium today has announced the commencement of three day Road Safety campaign. The campaign is meant for the welfare of the driving community at IGI Airport. It covers various aspects related to Road Safety including strict adherence to traffic rules and health awareness sessions. In order to make the campaign effective, DIAL has partnered with large Automobile industry players such as Toyota, Kirloskar and Maruti Suzuki. The campaign is a part of National Road Safety week 2017 and aims to enable healthier and safer lives of IGIA drivers and adding to the overall well being of the society.

As the drivers normally tend to ignore health issues, a comprehensive health checkup have been undertaken in collaboration with Medanta, the specialist in Healthcare. The tests include ECG for ensuring a healthy heart, blood tests to keep diabetes and sugar under check and Eye checkup for their good vision. Free spectacles are given away to the drivers having weak eyesight. Special tests for lever and kidney functioning have been conducted depending on the requirement. The programme is being held at Public Transport Centre (PTC) near Centaur Hotel, IGI Airport.

Commenting on this achievement, Mr I Prabhakara Rao, CEO, Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd. said, "We are delighted to participate in this noble initiative. Today's fast paced and stressful work environment leads to lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure, weak eyesight and diabetes. Such health camps help us to focus on the welfare and well-being of the airport staff who keep India's busiest airport operational and contribute it to becoming World No.1. It underscore the seriousness that DIAL attaches to the safety on IGIA Roads. DIAL strives to bring down traffic related road incidents and congestion to create safe and efficient traffic management at IGIA."

The above tests and training are a positive step forward in boosting the Safety not just on IGIA roads but also the entire city wherever the taxis ply. Sensitive aspects such as anti-alcoholism and drugs were also addressed through counselling with the help of SPYM a Non-profit organisation working towards the prevention of drug abuse.
