mayawati_rally_azamgarh Azamgarh: Aiming to make a sizeable dent in the vote bank of Azamgarh constituency, from where Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav got elected as MP, BSP coordinators have been working overtime to assemble a crowd of at least 3.2 lakh people for party chief Mayawatis rally at ITI ground on Sunday. They are hoping to mobilise around 5,000 people from each of the 65 assembly segments in three divisions of Azamgarh, Gorakhpur and Basti. The rally is second in the series of Sarvajan Hitay Sarvajan Sukhay rallies, which Mayawati started in Agra on August 21. It was her first rally in eastern UP after the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign. MLC and BSPs zonal coordinator Dinesh Chandra said the rally will be historic and there will be more people than at any previous rally in Azamgarh. Another party coordinator said supporters from neighbouring Gorakhpur and Basti divisions have been asked to reach Azamgarh by Saturday night. Azamgarh has a nearly 9 lakh-strong population of Dalits of the Jatav sub-caste. The BSP had managed to win a decent number of seats from the district until 2012, when it could win only 1 out of 10 assembly seats in the district. In 2007, the party had won 6 out of 10 seats. The district also has a reserved Lok Sabha constituency Lalganj. Mayawati is expected to not only seek the support of Dalits but will also reach out to a large population of OBCs, Muslims and upper castes
