Narendra Modi pays homage to Rabindranath Tagore on 155th birth anniversary

New Delhi:PM�Narendra Modi on Saturday paid homage to Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore on his 155th birth anniversary.

"I bow to Gurudev Tagore on his birth anniversary. He was a versatile personality whose profound thoughts and writings continue to inspire," Modi tweeted.

Tagore, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 was born on May 7, 1861. He died on August 7, 1941.

Author of Gitanjali and its "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse"

Tagore wrote poetry as an eight-year-old.

He hailed from Bengal, and is attributed for reshaping Bengali literature and music, as well as Indian art with modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Tagore introduced new prose and verse forms and the use of colloquial language into Bengali literature, thereby freeing it from traditional models based on classical Sanskrit.
