24 CRPF personnels killed in encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarhs Sukma

New Delhi: In a deadly encounter 24 CRPF personnel's were killed during a crossfire, while six were injured in the combat against naxalites in Chattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday.

Around 12:25pm, the encounter begain between the Bukapal-Chintagufa area in south Bastar. It is one of the worst Maoist violence affected region in the state.

The Six CRPF troops injured said to critically injured and efforts are on to evacuate then from the area safely.

The jawans are from the 74th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and were deployment in the area for anti-Moaist operations.

"The incident took place when the road opening of the 74th battalion of CRPF were out on patrol at Burkapal near Chintagufa. The jawans were deployed for security at an under construction road. The maoist ambushed CRPF personnel and started indiscrimating firing," said Jitendra Shukla, additional supritendent of police, said.

While reinforcement from the near CRPF camp had rushed to the spot for backup soon after the incident, the injured were being airlifted to Raipur for treatment, Shukla added.

Some of the soldier's succumbed to their injures.

All weapons, Wireless and complete ammunition belonging to the slain jawans were looted by the Maoists.

Chattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh condemning the attack cancelled his engagements in Delhi and rushed back to Raipur, to hold an emergency meeting later in the day.

Bastar inspector general Vivekanad Sinha along deputy inspector general Sunderraj have left for Sukma to take stock of the situation.

Earlier this year twelve personnel of the CRPF were killed in the same district in deadly Naxal ambush.
