IAS officer Ashish Dhaiya was an ace swimmer, who died drowning in a swimming pool

New Delhi: IAS Ashish Dhaiya who died after drowning in a swimming pool of Foreign Club Institute in south Delhi's Ber Sarai last night while apparently trying to save his female colleague, was an ace swimmer who had once crossed Bhakra Nangal dam in Himachal Pradesh, his family said. Now, Dahiya's family is practicing restrain and urging for an investigation in the case.

Dahiya,30, finished his IAS training at the IAS Academy in Mussoorie a week ago and was picked for the Indian Administrative Services in 2016 and was scheduled to join office in Srinagar as an assistant collector on June 1. He was currently working as an assistant commissioner with Customs and Central Excise before appearing for the UPSE exams for the second time last year when he qualified for the Indian Administrative Services. However, in an earlier attempt he had also qualified for the Indian Revenue Service.

"Statements of eyewitness reveal that while swimming, a woman officer probably had an accidental slip into the pool and many young officers, including the deceased, attempted to rescue her. As the women officer was safelu pulled out, t was noticed that Ashish was missing. Son, after, his body was discovered floating in the pool", Additional DCP (South), Chinmoy Biswal said. Dhaiya was soon rushed to the Fortis Hospital were he was declared brought dead.

His uncle, Kuldeep found it difficult to believe that Dhaiya could have died due to drowning, DCP (South) Ishwar Singh have eliminated the possibility of foul play citing the medical reports which shows drowning as the cause of death.

Ashish Dhaiya's body has been sent to AIIMS for post-Morten examination where his family have reached from Hariyana's Sonipat.
