J&K: Another Army jawan caught with live bullets at Srinagar airport

New Delhi: Another soldier has been held for carrying live bullets at Srinagar airport on Tuesday. The incident comes just a day after an Army soldier was held with grenades by anti-hijacking squad travelling to Delhi. The detained jawan carrying bullet has been identified as constable Pandit Raj has been handed over to the Army by airport officials. Interrogations are currently underway.

Bhopal Mukhia of 17 J&K Rifels was captured by the security personnels carrying two grenades along with him. He was scheduled to board the flight to New Delhi. The detained soldier claimed that he was instructed by his senior to take the grenades along with his baggage and hand them over to someone in the national capital. "Major Sahab told me to do so," he said.

Mukhiya was caught during the routine X-ray screening. He was carrying the hand grenades in his pocket, confirmed an a spokesman. "The matter is under investigation. The army will take action against the individual," he said.

The Army jawan hails from Darjeeling region of West Bengal and was deployed in the sensitive Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. A seat in the charted flight was booked by him for travelling to new Delhi.

Jammu & Kashmir police chief SP Vaid assured stringent action against those found guilty. "Whether it is an Armyman or a civilian, everybody will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law," he said.

The arrest of the two Army jawans at the airports comes in the backdrop of the recent spurt in militant attacks targeting security forces in the valley. One soldiers have been killed in two different attacks on CRPF convoys on Sunday and Monday respectively.While, 23 CRPF jawans were injured injured in the twin attack. In spite of the heavy security, the militants managed to carry out the attacks in the Valley right before upcoming Lok Sabha by-elections.
