J&K: Past six year, Nine cops join militant outfits

JAMMU: Horrifying incidents of Police personnel's turning deserter and fleeing away with weapons to join militant groups have been rising in the Kashmir valley. Naveed Mushtaq, a constable posted at a gowdown of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) ,seven kilometer from Budgam district of Central Kashmir fled the camp with 4 rifles of his fellowmen and ammunition on May 20 to join Hizbul Mujahideen. This is the third such incident in recent years.

However, there have been several incident instances of Jammu and Kashmir policemen fleeing the with service rifles and joining various minitant outfits. The number have reached from six to nine, in the past six years now.


In 2016: Last year, a special Police officer posted in Rainwari police station of the old City area also fled with an AK-47 rifle of collegue to join the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

In Sepetember, 2015: Two policemen Riyaz Ahmed and Ghulam Muhammad both residents of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, decamped with their service rifles and joined militant groups but were later killed in an encounter. According to police both were associated to Hizbul Mujahideen before they joined police force.

In 2015, PSO Rakib Bashir from Pulwama district joined Hizbul Mujahiden milkitant out fit with the first month of his recrutement in a south Kashmir Police department.

In 2014: Earlier on March27 2014, Senior Police Officer Naseer Ahmad Pandit of 11th Battalion of armed police fled with two AK-47 Rifles form Kareemabad village in Pulwama district was posted at former R&B Minister Altaf Bukhari's resdidence in Lal Chowk, joined the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. He was later killed in an encounter in south Kashmir.

Earlier in 2012: One PSO of Batmaloo and another of Tengpora were arrested for their involvement in militancy related cases in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir.

The trend in which Police personnel's are fleeing away with their service rifles to join military outfits is a method adopted by militants to recruit new faces . In this method youth willing to join any militant group gets involved into crime activities first so that after joining militancy they cannot go back to their normal life even if they want to in fear of serve punishments for joining the militant groups.
Jammu and Kashmir police have busted many ground workers of militant's in South Kashmir.

However, Political analysts have say that the frequency of such incidents have posed a new challenge for security agencies in the trouble ridden Kashmir.
