New Delhi: After tasting a vinegary defeat in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party,also the aftermath is not so good for some senior Congress leaders.Many have stepped down from their posts after the party's dismal performance in the polls.
Senior Congress leader and All India Congress Committee General secretary Gurudas Kamat on Wednesday announced his resignation from all party posts following the loss in the polls.
Earlier in the day, Congress Delhi in-charge P C Chacko announced that he would resign from the post.
"Party should have an opportunity to put things in order. Having failed, we should leave the post. I will send my resignation. I will send my resignation to Congress president and vice-president," Chacklo said.
Also, Delhi's Congress president Ajay Maken announced that he would resign form the post while taking responsibility of the defeat in the cioviv polls.
"I take responsibility for defeat and I an going to resign as Delhi Congress president.I will not take up any post in the party for one year and will work as a party worker," Maken said while talking to the media here.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is swept the MCD polls in Delhi, a remarkable comeback from its poor show in 2015 assembly elections. The BJP had then won only three out of 70 assembly segments, but its Wednesday tally stood out at 180 out of 270 corporation seats. It took a leap of 4% in 2015 to nearly 65% in 2017.
