New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of International Womens Day raises the social evil of female foeticide in still prevailing in the Indian society and urged the women Sarpanchs to play a key role in ending this vicious act of 'femicide'.
Women sarpanch from different parts of the country attended the event, which had been jointly organised by the Center and the Rural Development Department of Gujarat government.
Honoring the women who have succeeded in shattering various myths, the Prime Minister Modi said he can see determination to make a positive difference when he meets these woman Sarpanchs.
"They (Women sarpanchs) have shown how a positive change has begun in rural India," he said while addressing the delegates of Women Sarpanchs conclave.
Batting for gender equality, the Prime Minister said both, boys an girls should get equal access to education.
"A discriminatory mindset cannot be accepted. We are seeing how girls are shining in the board exams and in other areas as well," he said.
The Prime Minister congratulated the women who were honored on the occasion,saying they are a source of inspiration for the en tire nation.
