Darjeeling: Supporters of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) set fire to a government office in a village near Darjeeling early on Monday during an indefinite strike called by the regional party for separate Gorkhaland.
GJM president Bimal Gurung have asked tourist to leave the land immediately and warned those who stay on during its attempt lockdown of administrative offices.
However, section 144 have been imposed in some areas, around District Magistrate's office, treasury building and court. Section 144 was already in some pats f the Hills every site trouble started but the enforcement have actually begun since Monday.
Trinamool Congress ;issued an order on Sunday mandating that officers in Darjeeling and Kalimpong stay open. Any time missed by government employees will be trated as a break in service that results in lost salary.
The situation in the Hills is tense, Paramilitary forces and police are patrolling the streets.
