Six men brutally thrashed by gau rakshaks while transporting buffaloes in Delhi

New Delhi: Six men thrashed transporting buffaloes were allegedly thrashed by a mob in south east Delhi, police said on Saturday, latest incident of vigilantism after PM Modi's warning to radical groups linked to the Hindu right-wing.

The incident took place at Baba Haridas Nagar on Friday night, police said.
The animals were transported in five to six pick-vans were let loose by the mob who were taken for slaughter.

One of the person injured in the incident, Ali Jaan, 40 received serious injuries, while other victims received injuries on their faces and hands, the source said. The mob was pelting stones at the pick-up vans.

However, the identity of the attackers were not cleared but were said be the residents of nearby Jharoda Kalan. An FIR has been registered by the police at the Baba Hardas Nagar police station.

Only last month, a day before Eid a minor Muslim boy travelling from Delhi was brutally killed by a group of men aboard a train. The attackers allegedly accused the young boy of being a beef-eater.

Also, several Muslim people have been killed across the county on suspicion of eating beef and transporting illegally by groups professing to protecting the cow, an animal considered sacred in Hinduism.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke silence over the issue and spoke against 'gau rakshaks' becoming the law unto themselves but critics say the government has done little to reign in vigilante groups. While he was giving his speech another person was killed by a violent mob in Karnataka over the suspicion of carrying beef in his van.
