New Delhi: Atleast 22 people were burned to death and several others were injured after a collision between a truck and a bus today in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. The which caught fire immediately after it collided with the truck, killed the 22 passengers on National Highway 24 at around 1 am on Monday.
The belonged to the Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). While the injured immediately rushed to a near by hospital for medical treatment.
The collision happened between the Bareily and Sahajahanpur stretch of National Highway 24, which is largely an under-construction area. The bus was travelling from Delhi to Gonda depot. According to eye-witnesses, the bus engulfed in flames soon after the collision, and since most of the passengers were asleep, the fatality level was high. The diver was allegedly speeding past a junction when the collision occurred.
The official number of people on the bus has not been confirmed yet, officials claim that they have been able to recover charred remains of around 10 persons. Around 20 persons have reportedly managed to escape the fire, but with injuries and hence they have been admitted for medical care.
Police on the spot is trying to identify and locate the other bodies from the charred remains of the bus are investigating all the aspects of the case
